Wire Sculptures

To explain this work, we must first take a detour through Koster’s fascination for lines, as shown by her series of line drawings of human figures. These have lines drawn on a hard polished white surface, producing a brightness and contrast not possible with most paper substrates. Her drawings are also large, enveloping the viewer in a gentle curtain of slow comprehension.

The Wire Sculptures are a study which arose from these drawings. Their iron threads are almost as light as the drawing’s pencil lines. They appear to emerge from a quick scribble, a pencil sketch, but floating in the air.

Most beautiful is when the sun plays through the wire structures, casting a shadow copy of the spacial drawings upon the wall. The result is a double-portrait which changes perspective and character throughout the day.

This shadow surprised me today!
